About Panditji

Pt.Chandrakant Limaye is the true successor, carrying forward the tradition and singing in an inimitable style of Late Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande. Panditji holds the listener’s interest, whenever he delivers his performances. With the exposition of prominent ragas, he brings out their depth in his melodious, well pitched metallic voice. His imaginative mix of classical ragas and excellence in highlighting the special neuances in the lighter genre such as Thumri, Dadra, Tappa, Bhajans and Marathi Natya Geet leave the listeners in a soul soothing world of sur and laya. Inspite of the influence of his Guru, Lt. Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande and his gayaki, panditji has been able to create his own style and thereby his own identity.

His speciality such as KHATKAS, MURKEES and gliding from one swara to another effortlessly, and emphasizing so much on proper pronounciation of words in the poetry to bring out its latent emotion, leaves indelible mark on the listeners

SAWAI GANDHARVA:
Pt. Chandrakant Limaye performed at the prestigious Sawai Gandharva Music Festival Pune, on 11th December, 2010.

He was to perform at 6 in the evening so he mentally decided to sing Raga Marva. But the last moment, because the artist preceding him could not reach in time, Shree Shrinivas Joshi and Shree Srikant Deshpande requested him to perform earlier, so Panditji changed his plans of singing raga Marva to Bhimpalasi followed by Raga Chandramohini and concluded with Saavre Aijaiyo.

In Bhimpalasi, he started with the bada khayal, ‘piya mose kahe’ set in vilambit Ektaal and followed it up with the bandish ‘Balamva targaiya’ set in Dhrut Teental.

Second raga he chose was Chandramohini, with bada khayal ‘kaahe bulaae’ set in madhyalaya teental. ‘Chandramohini’ is one of the Raga amongst some ragas that Panditji had created almost a decade back. He has also written and composed the above mentioned bandish.

The recital was concluded with the famous ‘Saavre aijaiyo’ rendered by Panditji in his own unique style.

The audience enjoyed the performance so much, they could not stop asking for more. But due to lack of time, amidst a huge public demand and farmaish for a composition from his famous musical play ‘Katyar kaljaat ghusli’, Panditji promised the audience to adhere to their request next year.
